Canyon Run Ranch Wedding | Ashley & Joe | Dayton Wedding Planner
I’m not sure I have ever met two people more sweet and complimentary to each other then Ashley and Joe. When we first chatted I knew I wanted to work with them. Ashley was so open and honest about how she felt about her wedding and was interested in using color to really create something fun for their guest. They wanted more muted earth tones and I was so game!
They both lived in Chicago so we split up our planning meeting between their visit to Ohio and my trips to Ohio. My favorite were the meeting in Ohio because we meet a few times at a local pie shop and once at our favorite ice cream store Jeni’s. If you know me at all you know I love ice cream and Columbus based ice cream maverick Jeni has some of the most delectable flavors I’ve ever had. She has a balance with unique and approachable flavors while keeping her blends balanced with cream and fat and not creating ice crystals. Oh boy! I’m getting off track. The meetings with them were always filled with laughter and great questions as any meeting should. I really grew found of them and as we got closet to their wedding, I started to wish it was further away so we could stay in contact.
Nevertheless, Ashley and Joe got married in late August at Canyon Run Ranch, a quaint little private ranch and barn, that was first converted for the owner’s daughter. Nestled just 30 minutes North of Dayton, Ohio in Pleasant Hill, Canyon Run Ranch provides a bit of seclusion while still being accessible. They enjoyed a beautiful last summer day at their ceremony in the woods while a string group played with one very special instrument know as a hammered dulcimer.
I’m not sure if you would believe me but besides the in person meetings we planning their whole wedding using only 2 email threads! Talk about rock stars! Their guests enjoyed a nice charcuterie spread in the Milk Parlor, provided by Harvest, under the barn while Joe and Ashley took pictures. Joe’s mom made homemade jams that we displayed as each guests escort card to help them find their seat. We outfitted each jar with a tag with each guests name and included their name and a little watercolor wash to keep the design cohesive.
For dinner, guest were invited up to the barn to find their seats. The guest tables were covered in a deep slate blue linen with alternating napkins by table in mustard velvet napkins and bone. We kept the tables light on decor because Ashley truly wanted a hand picked garden feel, so each arrangement was a small collection of wild flowers from the area. Each place setting was set with a scalloped white place, gold flatware and a vintage blue water goblet.
Some of my favorite details were the paper floral garland that Ashley made and we worked with the venue to hang the day before in the entrance of the barn, the richness of the mustard (all the way down to her mustard wedding shoes) and color palette that we brought in through hand-painted signs and decor, and the little bit of the eclipse. Did you catch them all? Joe proposed to Ashley during eclipse the year prior and as a ways to bring in the personal part of their story, we used a eclipse stamp on their invitation and a dear friend created a lunar eclipse selfie backdrop that guests could take pictures in front of all night.
Congrats Ashley and Joe! And if any couple says thank you buy sending me a small box of Jeni’s Ice Cream, well I won’t be mad at all!
