I love a good birthday party so when Nadine first called me and said she wanted to throw a surprise birthday party for partner Javier I was all in! The party surprise party was to be held 21C Hotel in downtown Cincinnati. She wanted to create an elegant night for all of his friends. We kept it simple and focused on a modern and clean color palette of black and white. Since it was a surprise we needed a good cover story and Nadine had it covered. They both loved going out for elegant dinners so she had planned a fun night out on the town to meet with her sister who would be in town. Before “leaving” the Hotel 21C they strolled through a few of the galleries and as they turned the corner his closest family, friends, and colleagues were there to surprise him.

Guests enjoyed cocktails a walk down memory lane in the gallery space. Nadine had prepared 20-30 framed photos from across Javier’s life, from baby pictures to graduation of his Ph.D. and post-doctoral degrees, and world travels. It was neat to see all of the places that the Wright State Professor had traveled.

Once inside we set up 3 long tables as we wanted as many people to be able to spend time together as possible. Just across the room were the band and dance floor. Both Nadine and Javier can ballroom and Latin dance so we kept enough room for them to move around. The tables had long black linens and white runners with crisp white flower arrangements down the table. Each guest got a set of Woodford Reserve bourbon balls to take home. Needless to say, birthdays should be enjoyed no matter the age and the themes and styles of events are endless.
