Rachel and Brandon’s Hilton Netherland Plaza wedding was the perfect balance of soft romantic elements and vivid design details. This couple was up for some bold design choices and the results are striking.

Inspired by a favorite Dutch still-life painting and some gorgeous floral wallpaper, our color palette was made up of deep jewels tones - think mauve, maroon, and burgundy. But the thing that really set this color palette apart? Black accents. Black has a way of making other colors really pop and it pairs so nicely with jewel tones. Throughout Rachel and Brandon’s design, we mixed romantic jewel-toned florals with strong black accents creating the perfect balance of traditional and modern.

The Hilton Netherland Plaza has a beautiful ballroom, so I love that we utilized the space for both the ceremony and reception. For the ceremony, we anchored the back wall with clusters of florals and various heights. They created a great backdrop and were easily reworked when we flipped the room for the reception. The ceremony florals were a mixture of footed compotes, small clusters, and high glass pedestals. We worked with Robin Wood Flowers to select bright and unusual blooms to give the florals a modern feel. And remember, just because your venue provides linens doesn’t mean you have to use them. We wanted a very specific color for our design, so we opted to source linens from BBJ Linens to achieve the perfect look.

One of my favorite details of the day was Rachel and Brandon’s seating chart. Rachel actually found the custom wallpaper that inspired our color palette and the seating chart was the perfect way to incorporate it. The floral motif background was so eye-catching. We worked with her stationery to create the panels with grommets for easy hanging and was able to keep the wallpaper after the wedding. The place cards at the table were finished with a wax seal that matched their invitations. After everyone was seated, we took down the panels with the seating chart. The wallpaper was a great backdrop for guest photos for the rest of the night. Don’t forget to get creative with larger items like this. Often times they can be used for multiple things throughout an event.

I also love that Rachel and Brandon weren’t afraid to incorporate a bit of color into their wedding cake design. The jewel tones looked beautiful on the cake, almost giving it a watercolor feel. We also tied their color palette into the hotel bags, specifically selecting drinks and snacks that fit with the look of the day. For a personal touch, we included bourbon balls made by the family. Hotel bags are a great way to give your guests a sneak peek of your wedding day decor and let them know you are thinking of them. And you know they are a hit when guests are talking about them at the wedding!

Rachel and Brandon’s Hilton Netherland Plaza wedding was bold and modern while still feeling completely classic. It was a new and creative way to design at the Hilton Netherlands Plaza. I loved working with this couple and bringing their wedding vision to life!
