A Butterfly Masquerade Birthday
A masquerade ball - its very essence is mystery and romance, magic and wonder - a night that all will remember. As adults, it can be easy to let imagination and surprise fall to the wayside, even during special occasions, like birthdays. Luckily, Marcia did not want her birthday to pass by with just a normal dinner out; she wanted something unexpected, a celebration steeped in mystique, femininity, and surprise. Not unlike herself - an accomplished physician and competitive dancer who travels to national dance competitions every few weeks. She is known for her distinctive purple hair and big personality. Marcia wanted her birthday party to be a true reflection of who she is, so we helped her in creating the perfect concept for her birthday ball - A Metamorphosis from Mask to Butterfly.
We ended our creative journey at a masquerade ball layered with shades of purple and magical butterfly swarms. Yet this was only the backdrop of the evening, with the real magic revealed in a neverending succession of enthralling entertainment throughout the evening: live performances by a popular Latin band interspersed between sets by a DJ, aerial acrobats performing in rings set on lollipop stands, a body artist for guests to paint, a mime strolling through the crowd, and a magician performing acts throughout the evening. With the intention to delight and surprise her guests throughout the night with a constant stream of performances, Marcia’s masquerade kept all enthralled throughout the event.
Another unique element of the ball was the food! Dotted around the venue space were upscale food stands serving an eclectic mix including Caribbean jerk chicken skewers, shrimp ceviche alongside homemade pita chips, and tender roast beef sliders. Dispersing the food stands throughout the space brought a natural ebb and flow of guest movement, allowing the decorations and amusements to be naturally showcased as guests roamed the venue. The signature cocktails were planned and designed by Marcia’s husband - a connoisseur of fine drinks - and allowed another unique part of her life to be interwoven into the evening. Called The Aviation Cocktail, a shimmery purple, gin cocktail with additions like Creme de Violette and Luxardo Maraschino cherries, it was a hit among the guests!
Perhaps the most stunning piece of decor was the cake! A true culinary masterpiece inspired by the evening’s festivities, it provided a unique backdrop for pictures throughout the evening and delivered a delicious finish to the night.
One last standout feature was the dance floor. An important element for our competition dancing birthday queen, it added an elegant, modern touch to the venue. Decorated with glossy black butterflies it reflected the setting sun with a fiery glow as guests took to the dance floor. Possibly our most complex, yet most amazing event yet, this masquerade ball was truly a night that will be remembered.
