Classic meets Funky Al Fresco Wedding in Yellow Springs | Liz & Spencer | Dayton Wedding Planner
Nestled in a small town outside of Dayton, Ohio is the fun and free-spirited town of Yellow Springs. A few years ago Liz's parents bought an old Bed and Breakfast and turned it into their next family home. The list of projects on the house wasn't short but the deadline for completion was set once Liz asked if she could get married there.
The property is the quintessential suburban oasis. Not noticeable from the street but packed with charm in every corner. From the long and modern pool, the small field of wild flowers and the pathways lined with the local river rocks. Liz and Spencer's wedding was a blend of them in the true sense that Liz is a bit funky and Spencer prefers classic design. We kept this at the forefront as we pulled together for their wedding. Living in San Francisco where the weather is great and you can eat outside for a larger part of the year they both wanted their wedding to be a classy al fresco dining experiences with their closest family and friends.
We started the evening off with a little welcome reception in the courtyard. Guest were invited passed the pool down the steps through the wild flowers for the ceremony in the backyard. Not all went as planned though, as her parents were about to walk down the aisle it started to rain and we had to delay the ceremony. Luckily, there was some room in the house and a large barn to house everyone while we delayed for 20 minutes and had guest enjoy another cocktail and few bites to eat. Once we did get the ceremony underway Liz and Spencer were married by Spencer's brother under a circular arch of flowers by Floral V Designs.
We continued cocktails out in the courtyard complete with 'Elizabeth Spencer' wine. Dinner was served family style in the back yard against the gorgeous size steel doors of the barn. Guests gathered around long wood tables lined with hand laid greens, calligraphed table numbers, and clusters of candles. Each place setting had an herb sprig from a neighbors garden. They dined as the sunset under the bistro lights.
We keep things clean and simple with the invitation design but added Liz's spunk with a few seating vignettes in the barn. I took the old front door that had been replaced just a few week prior and created their seating chart.
The night would not have been complete without a lot of dancing under the disco ball in the barn, a bite of sriracha popcorn or a cup of the coffee from Summit Coffee. There was even barista on site to make whatever coffee you wanted. Guest were given a specialty blend of coffee named after their dog to take home. It was a day I won’t forget.
“Sam picked up on my aesthetic almost immediately and represented my interests to my partners and vendors effectively in meetings and discussions that I was not able to participate in being so far away. In addition to her incredible attention to detail (did I mention she did all of our calligraphy and styled the details photo shoot on the day of?! ), she is truly passionate about what she does and that comes through over, and over again. She is not fatigued by doing weddings and events nonstop, but rather she is energized by them and always looking to do things differently and innovate. Wedding weekend would not have been the perfect experience that it was without SJE and her incredible staff. On our wedding day, I spent time with friends and family, drank champagne, and focused on the special moments and she made that happen.” - Elizabeth the bride
