Terrapin Village | Carly & Matt | Dayton Wedding Planner
When it rains, it pours. That was certainly the case at Matt and Carly’s Terrapin Village Wedding.
Matt and Carly’s wedding was one I won’t soon forget. Summertime in the Midwest is synonymous with unpredictable weather; an important consideration when choosing a ceremony location. Carly had always dreamed of getting married under the family oak tree. At the top of the hill overlooking the valley where her parent’s home was. Her sister has gotten married there just the year prior. However, Carly and Matt had decided to avoid an outdoor ceremony to ensure the weather wasn’t a factor.
But at the last minute, Matt decided they should be married under a beautiful oak tree. The tree has special meaning to Carly and her family who owns the property. They would regularly enjoy picnics in its shade. It was a gathering place for them, someplace they had made countless special memories.
With a huge storm closing in fast, we were anxious about completing the ceremony before the rain started, but Matt was sure the weather would hold out long enough for it. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it before the skies opened up and poured! Just as we were sending Carly, escorted by her parents down the aisle, it started to sprinkle. A few minutes into the ceremony, it poured like we could have never imagined!
Sometimes you have to sacrifice for a special memory and at the end of the day, I’m glad we could give the bride and groom what the really wanted, getting married under the family tree.
In addition to the torrential downpour, Matt and Carly’s wedding was unique because of their venue. Situated between Dayton and Cincinnati, Terrapin Village is a beautiful private residence with waterfalls, covered bridges, and plenty of tall oak trees. It is an Instagram-worthy location to be sure.
However, when you are planning a wedding at a private residence, there are a number of logistical details to consider outside of the norm. Event venues are set up to handle large groups of people while private residences are not. That means you have to account for additional vendors to help the day run smoothly. It is important to think about everything from trash removal to bathrooms to generators.
Having an experienced and capable event designer is essential for a successful wedding at a private residence, so both you and your guests’ needs are addressed. There are many moving pieces and things to consider; it makes a world of difference having a team that is equipped to deal with it all and can advise you well. Have you thought about where guests might park or how they will get around the property? That is what we are here to help with!
Despite the rain, I’m glad that Matt came to use with the change to move the ceremony back up to the family tree. Just a few weeks later that special oak tree fell in a summer storm. Despite the monsoon level rain, I think Matt and Carly were married exactly where they were supposed to. Plus, the pictures really are worth a thousand words.
