Dayton Art Institute | Corbin & Daniel | Dayton Wedding Planner
Corbin and Dan’s summer wedding at the Dayton Art Institute was one for the books. While the Dayton Art Institute makes a beautiful backdrop, museum spaces can present some unique design challenges. Because museums typically have a very distinct look, it can be difficult to make the space look unique and fresh all while remaining representative of the bride and groom’s style. But with a little creativity, we were able to make the Dayton Art Institue the perfect venue for Corbin and Dan.
Dan and Corbin met in the summer of 2015. Corbin was fresh off a two-year teaching gig in South Korea and new to the Dayton area. She quickly became friends with a fun-loving group of people at her apartment complex that just happened to include Dan. Dan and Corbin bonded over college football and in the spring of 2016 went on their first official date. Several years later and after the adoption of their beloved Goldendoodle (Wilbur) Dan proposed in the Oregon District, not far from the spot of that first date.
When I start working with couples on their wedding design, I always like to zero in on a few details that are important or unique to them. Corbin is originally from Georgia and much of her family still lives in the south. Incorporating some southern details, like her bridal portrait and an heirloom cake topper, was a no brainer. We even served fried chicken and okra as one of their dinner options!
We also thought about ways to include their dog Wilbur into the ceremony even though he wasn’t there. Their signature cocktail was named after him, and we had their bar sign specially designed to include an illustration of him. Details like this allow a couple to showcase their personality and tell a bit of their love story through the decor.
To soften and warm the grand gothic architecture of the Dayton Art Institute, we chose a light, romantic color palette. The combination of the two aesthetics created something truly beautiful.
One of my favorite pieces from Corbin and Dan’s wedding was the custom seating chart that we designed and installed. Since the Dayton Art Institute is such a grand venue, we knew it could handle a large scale install. Name cards were perfectly pinned to an escort wall and then surrounded by florals and candles. The result was breathtaking.
Corbin and Dan are a fun-loving couple, and I think that definitely came through in their design. By tying pieces of their heritage into their design, we created an event the was special not just to the couple but to all the people who know and love them.
