7 Things to Do with Your Flowers After Your Wedding
The vows have been said, the cake has been cut, but one question remains - what do you do with your flowers after your wedding?
Flowers are one of our favorite details of any wedding day. Each arrangement is so unique and special. But since flowers are an essential part of a lot of wedding decor (think ceremony backdrops, centerpieces, bouquets) even a small wedding means you can end up with a lot of flowers at the end of the night.
So what do you do with your flowers once your wedding day is done? Don’t you dare think about the trash! Here are 7 of our favorite ideas.
1. Preserve.
While you can’t save everything, persevering a few of your wedding flowers is a great idea. Preserved flowers make great keepsakes and there are so many options to explore. If you plan to persevere (especially your bouquet) make sure you let your wedding planner or someone in the bridal party know. They can be your extra set of eyes to make sure it gets home with the right person at the end of the wedding.
2. Drop Them Off at A Nursing Home
Help brighten the day of both residents and staff by dropping off extra flowers at a local nursing home. Call ahead (especially right now) to arrange a safe drop off and make sure they accept donations. Also, look for companies in your area who provide transportation for these types of services.
3. Send with Friends
Who is hanging around at the end of your wedding? Make sure they leave with some flowers! If you rented vessels from your florist, pick up a few short vases from the dollar store before your wedding. That way guests have something to take flowers home in.
A little tip, when you get the flowers home, cut off an inch or two from the stem and put them in a new vase with water. This will give them a longer life. It’s also a great way to try your hand at flower arranging.
4. Propagate Succulents
Using succulents as decor is a big trend right now. But did they get pulled from pots to achieve the right look? No worries! Take them home and soak the roots in a bit of water. In no time you will start to see those roots come back to life, then grab a pot and plant them.

5. Leave at a Loved One’s Grave
Many couples feel the loss of a loved one more deeply on their wedding day. Drop a few of your flowers at their grave the next day as a way to honor their memory and make them a part of the day.
6. Repurpose One More Time
We are a big fan of repurposing flowers during your wedding day. Ceremony flowers can be used as reception decor and bouquets look great on the head table. If you are having a brunch the next morning, use those flowers one more time! See if they can be used as table decor and then send homes with guests.
7. Donate to a Community Center or Church
We are seeing more and more florists incorporating potted arrangements in their design and we love this for a more sustainable option. But if you wind up with more than you can handle at home, talk to a local church or community center. They might appreciate the donation.
