Visit Borgo Santo Pietro
An Escape into an Italian Borgo
Dreaming of a "pinch me, is this real?" wedding in Tuscany? That is how I felt when I visited Borgo Santo Pietro last fall. Imagine exchanging vows surrounded by rolling vineyards, indulging in luxurious spa treatments, and celebrating under a canopy of stars – all within the private embrace of Borgo Santo Pietro. This meticulously restored 13th-century estate isn't just a luxury hotel; it's an intimate haven available to transform your wedding day into a fairytale escape.
A Legacy of Hospitality Reborn
Borgo Santo Pietro's story whispers of history and transformation. The estate's origins trace back to medieval times, when it served as a "lazzaretto" – a place of rest and recuperation for weary pilgrims journeying along the Via Francigena, a historical route leading to Rome. Centuries later, the property fell into disrepair, and it wasn't until 2001 that Danish couple Jeanette and Claus Thottrup stumbled upon its forgotten beauty. In the office they have a photo from when they first took ownership and it was in poor shape.
Inspired by the estate's legacy and captivated by its potential, they embarked on a meticulous restoration journey. Their vision? To create a haven that seamlessly blends rustic charm with modern luxury, a place where guests could reconnect with nature and celebrate life's precious moments. Thus, Borgo Santo Pietro was reborn. From this initial vision it continued to grow.
Beyond "I Do": A Weekend of Tuscan Delights

Imagine capturing breathtaking photos amidst secret pathways and hidden fountains, or saying "I do" in a romantic ceremony nestled amongst the greenery. Not to mention the incredible cooking classes using the produce grown on property. With a farm to plate philosophy they use source and produce as much as they can
For the adventurous couple and their guests, Borgo Santo Pietro offers the opportunity to embark on invigorating hikes through the Tuscan countryside. With a hiking guide on staff these scenic trails lead to the nearby Abbey of San Galgano, a breathtaking roofless abbey steeped in history and perfect for a post-ceremony exploration.
No Tuscan celebration is complete without phenomenal food and wine. Borgo Santo Pietro boasts two exceptional restaurants – Meo Modo, a Michelin-starred haven of innovative cuisine, and Trattoria sull'Albero, a charming treehouse restaurant offering delectable regional dishes.
