Our 50 by 50 Goal
When I first started Samantha Joy Events, I dreamt of big loft goals. Large office space, a full team working with me, my future home and grand design ideas, things I never thought I would accomplish. I’m a very goal oriented person, maybe its because I’m quite competitive and feel like I’m in race with myself to get something done. Either way I started setting goals. Like every new business owner or person at the New Year I wrote them all down. Some I just through were a grand old wishes and others were really focused, my dad would call them a S.M.A.R.T. goal. They say to write your goals down because you begin to internalize them and subconsciously work towards them. But one of them that I didn’t think would happen. Surprisingly as of this year is 22% complete.
That goal: To be part of an event in all 50 state.
I definitely didn’t and sometimes doubt that I will get to all 50. Alaska might be a hard one to knock of my list, you know? However, over the last 3 years of my business I’ve slowly crossed them off. I could be part of an event in anyway, provide calligraphy, design for a workshop, work on someone else’s team, plan a wedding, a corporate event, etc. Why do I bring this up? For two reasons. I was chatting with a bride who lives in DC but was still considering whether to get married in Cincinnati or somewhere else and she was surprised to hear that I worked outside of Ohio. I love to travel and as an event planner new venues, cities, and cultures are something that excites me. It’s a great opportunity to design in new ways or execute ideas we’ve had that might not work in our local venues. I’m so inspired by communities and relationships with new vendors that their are boundless chances to be inspired, create, and serve my clients. So yes..we do travel and would love to help plan your next birthday party in the Bahamas, sales trip to Bozeman, Montana, or wedding in Providence.
And from that same conversation I was even surprised myself when I listed the names of the states off. I want to keep my goal written down and hold myself accountable, so I’m putting it out into the world. It is no longer a goal written in my planner but now will live in the internet. If you ever want to have calligraphy, need a hand at your event or would like the Samantha Joy Events team to be your planner and event design team we would love to chat!
